|
|
Hello fellow tankers. I am happy to annouce Atanks-2.1 has been
released. You can download the new release from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=72358
I have been having trouble updating the Sourceforge page, but the
release is displayed under the Download section.
At this time, this is a source-only release. I'm hoping someone will make
a binary version for Windows. (Please?)
This version contains some interesting changes, some of which effect the
atanks-config file. While these changes should be backward compatible,
I strongly recommend saving a copy of your .atanks-config file before
running Atanks-2.1.
The major changes in Atanks-2.1 are:
1. Tanks can now fire simultaniously, rather than one at a time. Many
thanks to Mike for creating this feature and submitting the patch. This
feature can be turned on in the Options menu under Turn Order.
2. The walls can be set to Steel mode so missles don't bounce off the
walls or floor. This is setting can be found under the Options menu in
the Physics section. The regular wall type is Rubber.
3. Missles self destruct after 60 seconds. This prevents endless loops in
the game when a missle will (for some reason) never hit a target.
4. Money should be fixed now so it doesn't over-flow and cause
negative amounts. Please report if this is fixed for you.
5. The size of the screen can be changed in the Options menu under Graphics.
Changing the screen size requires a re-start of Atanks.
Minor changes are as follows:
1. Player names appear over the tanks. This can be turned off from
the command line.
2. Sound can be turned on/off from the Options menu. This setting
requires a re-start to take effect.
3. Player names can be longer than 10 characters. They can be up
to 23 now.
4. Clicking the "X" in the corner of the window causes Atanks to
exit right away. ALT-F4 or similar short-cuts should also work now.
5. Player health is now displayed in the tank's colour, rather than white.
6. Insults no longer carry over into the next round.
For a more complete list of changes, please see the Change Log.
Please download, play and report back with your comments. Thank you.

But of course!
I've got it compiled now and it seems to be fully functional (minus detail below). I'm going to work on an NSIS installer, however, rather than just using an auto-extractor. I'm not sure if NSIS generates uninstallers too, however...

Uhm, uh...
The opposite seems to be true now in Windows
In fact, using the X or Alt-F4 on the main window causes it to freeze. If I use Ctrl+C on the console window, the game crashes!
On the positive side though (I guess), I've added an icon to the game. It's not exactly suitable to the game, but it's better than nothing. Also, would it be possible to get the original picture that the logo was made with? I figure I could make an icon out of that. |

Okay, you can sorta-scratch what I said about the icon. Took a quick screenshot and made an icon from there >_>
The icon has a white background, but at least it exists now |

With many thanks to Keilaron, the Windows version of Atomic
Tanks (2.1) has been released! You can grab a copy from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=72358
The new installer works well, and the un-installer
works on my test system. Please play, have fun
and let me know if I broke anything.
As Keilaron pointed out, fixing the window close button in
Linux seems to have caused the same problem with the Windows
version. This problem is on my to-do list and I hope to
have a fix in version 2.2.

I'd like to point out that in the meantime, you can still press ESC to quit the game.
(For some bizarre reason, there was one time I couldn't remember how to quit the game... I tried Alt+Q, Ctrl+Q, and all sorts of things except the obvious. ) |
