|
|
It's been a while, but the new release of Atomic Tanks is
finally here! New to version 2.6 are the following changes
and features:
1. Portuguese text should now install properly on systems
it did not install on before.
2. Which team a tank is on will now display on the status
bar at the top of the screen. Should help people from
shooting friendly tanks.
3. Default player names will now be more historical for
the feel of it.
4. Intelligent AI players now buy parachutes when gravity exists.
5. In environments where dirt doesn't fall (no gravity) tanks
no longer fall.
6. The delay on cartoony gravity is now crudely adjustable.
7. More quotes for tanks were added -- English only at this time.
8. Menus were translated into Portuguese. Many thanks to Fred Maranhão
for doing all the work on this one.
9. When rollers hit Steel walls they fall in a normal fashion,
rather than warping to the bottom of the screen and exploding.
10. Game speed is now adjustable on the Graphic menu. This may
help people on slower machines or computers experiencing lock-ups.
WARNING: Changing game speed can also cause the program to freeze,
so do not adjust it if the game is already working!
11. Tanks now gloat only if they have killed another tank. No
gloating takes place on almost-kills.
12. Games can now be saved and played later. I'll post more on this
feature later in the general section. It's very basic right now
and may be buggy. Use it at your own risk.
Games can be saved by pressing F10 on the buying screen and
re-loaded from the New Game menu.
That's it for this release. I've got a few things planned for the
next one and, as always, I look forward to your feedback.
Thank you for your support.

Windows-specific note:
This version now attempts to save it's data in %AppData%, e.g.:
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\atanks
This should make Atomic Tanks playable to regular users (as opposed to admin users) and possibly Vista users. However, how this affects 9x (and previous) users I'm not certain, so please let me know.
The configuration file will be saved there as well as the savegames. The old location for the config file will only be used for initially loading the old configuration data.
Also, I am experimentally making a patch for 2.4/2.5 users to update to 2.6 - you know, to be a bit more 56k friendly. |
