The release of Atomic Tanks 2.3 is here! This release focuses on
some minor improvements and some cosmetic changes. We've also
added a new item. This release can be downloaded as source code or
as a Windows executable. Many thanks to Keilaron for providing the
Windows version.

You can get the latest version of Atomic Tanks from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=72358

What is new in this release? Here's a summary:

1. Human players can now be put under temporary control of the
computer. Pressing F10 during your turn will causes the computer
to play for you until the end of the round.

2. The name of the Repair Kit has changed to Auto Repair Kit to make
its function more clear. The tech level of the kit has
also been reduced.

3. The Page Up and Page Down keys now cause the tank's power
setting to go up and down dramatically.

4. Players can choose different tank styles. The options are Default
(which was the only style before) and Classic. This can be changed
from the Player menu.

5. When exiting the game during a round in Windows, the tanks no longer
all fire their weapons.

6. There is a new device called Fan. This allows the player to change the
strength and direction of the wind. The effects depend on where your
turret is pointed and how much power is in your shot.

7. You can select to use either the default Atanks mouse cursor or your
OS default cursor. The option is under the Graphics menu.
This option requires a restart to properly take effect.
Note: The OS cursor is probably a little faster.

8. The ENTER key on the number pad can now be used when entering the
player's name. This was disabled before.

9. The intro screen has been changed a little. The new graphics were
provided by Keilaron.

10. Game settings are now saved once you exit the Options screen. This makes
sure your settings are saved, even if the game crashes during a round.

As a side note to this release, I've been working on Atomic Tanks for about
four months now and more has been done than I had hoped. Over thirty
bugs have been fixed and numerous features have been added. Feed back has
been very positive and I want to keep working on this project. However, other
open source projects I had been working on have lagged behind in this time. I'm
going to take a little time to work on them. I will also be moving to a
new home later this month, which will temporarily stop work.
I mention this because I've been trying to put out about one release every
month and I will be unable to keep up the pace. The next release of Atomic
Tanks will likely happen in mid-summer, unless a critical bug is discovered.

Thank you for your support and continuing feed-back,
Jesse
